THE DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF A PRACTICAL FLAT CABLE AND CONNECTING METHOD,

Abstract

The paper presents a development and application survey of a basic method of wiring, using flat cable and specifically designed connector components, both in the modular concept for compact wiring, and in the pressure sensitive adhesive concept for telephone use. The modular concept applied to round wire flat cable, coupled with a simple and rapid connecting means, offers a versatile wiring system with relatively few standard components. Although this system makes no attempt to cover the wide range of electrical and mechanical requirements that exist, a general purpose cable has been developed and should offer a significant contribution to the progress of flat cable usage. The reliability and labor-saving advantages of the pressure-sensitive adhesive cable system appear, at this time, to have been proven for several applications, and further development work will, no doubt, open the doors to other uses, such as public address, page call, intercommunications, home audio and low voltage wiring.
