CROSSTALK IN TACTICAL INTRA-AREA GROUND ELECTRONIC CABLES,

Abstract

A method of predicting crosstalk in a two layer cable was discussed. The empirical data from laboratory test samples indicates that the method may be applied to any two layer cable where the conductors do not vary in size by more than two AWG numbers. Capacitance between conductors is the most important cable constant to be considered when dealing with electrostatic crosstalk and unbalanced circuit arrangements. The load on the disturbed pair and the frequency of the disturbing signal are the other considerations. A group of crosstalk characteristic curves when plotted from an equation derived empirically can be used to predict crosstalk amplitude. Capacitance between conductors of a two layer cable can be predicted from a nomogram which relates primary conductor material to capacitance. (Author)
