TRANSIENT FREE-SURFACE FLOW.

Abstract

The theoretical analysis of two-dimensional, transient, free surface, irrotational flows of a perfect, incompressible fluid has been reduced to a routine determination of terms in series. The method has been applied to find the switching speed of a simple model of a hydraulic switch based on the Coanda effect. Experiments with the model showed that the low Reynolds number needed for stability makes perfect fluid theory inapplicable. (Author)
