AGING OF NEOPRENE IN A WEATHEROMETER,
Abstract
An investigation was made of the effect of comparatively long exposure of neoprene jackets in an accelerated weathering device. At the same time, it was hoped that the effect on weathering of lowering the neoprene content of a jacket could be determined. On the basis of the work done, it appears that a weatherometer such as the one used does not contribute materially to the estimation of expected outdoor service life of neoprene jackets. An accelerated ozone test in conjunction with a 100C air oven test gives a reliable criterion of expected service life in a comparatively short time, certainly much shorter than that required for the weatherometer test. In the case of GR-S jackets, however, the weatherometer may be much more useful.
