A SEALING CONNECTOR FOR SMALL INSULATED CONDUCTORS,

Abstract

The research, development and test results demonstrate that the general properties of the shear type sealing connector favorably match the overall specifications set down. A one piece connector capable of connecting 2 or 3 unstripped plastic or paper insulated conductors of differing or equal gage in one operation has been developed. The connector quickly and reliably seals the connection within a durable jacket in such a manner as to exclude moisture. An application tool, simple and non adjustable, has been provided. The connector described is primarily designed for connecting of conductors in 'pigtail' fashion, though other variations are being developed. The 'pigtail' arrangement has advantage in the respect that it permits the connection to be made outside the immediate conductor bundle. Such a feature permits faster and safer installation for tool applied connectors. The complete connector described in this paper has been designated the 'Scotchlok' TYPE T. This connector should contribute materially to maximum utilization of the inherent moisture-proof qualities of plastic telephone cable. (Author)
