THE OPTICAL ABSORPTION EDGE IN THE LEAD SALTS AND ITS VARIATION WITH TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE.

Abstract

This report contains: a review of experimental and theoretical investigations of the band structure of the lead salts; a report of new measurements of the shift of the optical absorption edge in PbS, PbSe, and PbTe with hydrostatic pressure, and of the edge in PbS with temperature; a study of the shape of the absorption edge and its variation with temperature and pressure, particularly in PbS; and a study of the shape of the refractive index curve n(hv) near the absorption edge in PbS, and the shift of n(hv) with pressure and temperature.
