SHOCK WAVE TRANSMISSION THROUGH A LARGE RESTRICTION IN A CONSTANT AREA DUCT.

Abstract

Plane shock waves were reflected by bulkheads in a constant area, circular cross-section, shock tube. Each bulkhead contained a centered circular orifice; tube-to-orifice area ratios were 96, 50.5 and 23.3. Both input- and transmitted-shock pressure histories were measured at several distances from the bulkhead, and the results are compared with theory. Pressure measurements were also made of the shock waves transmitted through orifices in two bulkheads placed in series. (Author)
