CONSERVATIVE INFERENCE WITH SIMPLE AND DIFFUSE HYPOTHESES.
Abstract
A large number of experiments have evaluated the manner in which men make inferences about hypotheses on the basis of fallible data. The most important conclusion of these experiments is that man is a conservative information processor, unable to extract as much information as is latent in the data. The research reported further investigates the phenomena of conservative information processing. (Author)
