A STUDY OF THE HEAT GENERATION RATES AND TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION OF A PAIR OF BALL BEARINGS UNDER AXIAL LOAD.

Abstract

The thesis presents an analytical and experimental study of the thermal characteristics of light to moderately loaded ball bearings. Included are the results of a literature search, a theoretical analysis, and experimental results. A comparison between theory and experiment shows that the trends of the analytical prediction of heat generation rates and temperature distributions of an operating bearing is possible, however, the precision is of the order of 25% or worse. Other conclusions concerning the validity of the theory are discussed and recommendations for further work are presented. (Author)
