ANALYSIS OF VECTOR ANALOGUE COMPUTER.

Abstract

The principles and implementation of the Butler Vector Analog Computer are analyzed with emphasis on four concepts: distance proportional filtering, servo loop follow up speed limitations, constant deviation, and VOR receiver rf and af detection improvements. The VAC principles are found to be particularly advantageous when symmetrical VORTAC scalloping exists at frequencies higher than the VAC variable low-pass filtering threshold, (which is a function of amplitude owing to the nonlinear circuit implementation). The mathematical analysis tends to support the Butler Research conclusions that a substantial portion of observed VOR scallops can be attributed to spurious receiver response to rf amplitude changes.
