THE SUBHUMAN PRIMATE: A GUIDE FOR THE VETERINARIAN,

Abstract

The regulations and standards of the Laboratory Animal Welfare Act, PL 89-544, require programs of disease control and prevention, euthanasia, and adequate veterinary care maintained under the supervision of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in research facilities that use subhuman primates, as well as dogs and cats. This guide is an attempt to provide the veterinarian with a broad familiarity with procurement, housing and care, techniques, nutrition, infectious diseases, and classification of subhuman primates and to provide references for more detailed requirements in specific areas.
