CONTINUOUS PIECEWISE-LINEAR CHEBYSHEV APPROXIMATION TO A HYPERBOLA,

Abstract

A simple method is presented that allows continuous piecewise-linear Chebyshev approximation to the hyperbola y = 1/x. A relative error criterion is used. The endpoints are assumed to be on the curve, and the n-1 intermediate points of the n-segment approximating function are found. Computer results for the case n = 10 are included. (Author)
