HIGH-POWER, FOUR-PORT JUNCTION CIRCULATOR.

Abstract

The high-power limitations of four-port junction waveguide circulators are investigated. The optimum geometry and dielectric loading are determined. The major limitation is found to be high-power breakdown. An X-band, four-port junction circulator, capable of operating at a peak power of 150 kW at a center frequency of 9.0 GHz, is described. Isolation is found to be 15 db minimum and insertion loss less than 1 db over a frequency range of 250 MHz. The best material to inhibit ferromagnetic nonlinear effects was found to be YIG, with 45% gadolinium substitution. (Author)
