PRELIMINARY STUDY OF THE AFTERSHOCKS IN THE CENTRAL ANDES

Abstract

The aftershocks located in the Central Andes between January 1950 and June 1963 are considered. It appears that data in that period were too scarce to obtain a number of locations sufficient to give satisfactory results by this method; this region has more earthquakes deeper than normal, which prevents a fuller use of the method; nevertheless it may give acceptable results if applied to the last years.
