PHYSICS OF LASER OPERATION,

Abstract

The object of this report is to provide those unfamiliar with crystal physics with an understandable explanation of the theory of laser operation. The report discusses the various physical theories necessary to understand basic laser operation. In order to demonstrate the effect of system parameters on laser operation, the report also contains an interpretation of several basic equations. The last section describes the output characteristics of an experimental ruby laser and interprets the effect of system parameters on them. (Author)
