ENERGETIC POSITIVE IONS FROM PHOTOIONIZATION OF GASES,

Abstract

The use of photoionization experiments with ion-retarding potentials is discussed. Preliminary results are presented of measurements obtained with O2 and N2O. If O2 is assumed to dissociate directly, it is estimated that a dissociative state exists which at the equilibrium internuclear separation of the ground state of the neutral molecule lies 20.5 eV above the ground state of the neutral.
