RECIPROCITY AND CREDIT BUILDING IN DYADS.
Abstract
Four hypotheses, based on Gouldner's theory of reciprocity, were tested in an experimental gaming situation, with the following results: More reward was provided to the other person, (a) the more he had given in the past, (b) the larger his future resources, and (c) the smaller his past resources (both with his past level of giving and his past percentage of giving held constant). No interaction was found between past experience with the other person and the size of his future resources. (Author)
