BALLOON BORNE TELESCOPE FEASIBILITY STUDY AND DESIGN.

Abstract

The document is the final report of a balloon-borne selenodetic telescope study. Several basic telescope optical systems and their characteristics are discussed with an optimum configuration selected as the basis for the final design. Mechanical structures, thermal problems, focus control, and coarse and fine trading techniques are described. A section on expected system operation costs, based on historical data from previous balloon-borne experiments, is also included. (Author)
