PREDICTION OF SHIP SLAMMING LOADS: ON THE WATER IMPACT OF A CIRCULAR CYLINDER,

Abstract

A theoretical analysis is presented, for the calculation of the slamming pressure on a rigid two-dimensional circular cylinder. Important features of the theoretical model are: inclusion of the finite air density, incompressibility of the air and water, retention of the full nonlinear free-surface conditions, and the use of a continuous vortex sheet to represent the free surface and its image inside the cylinder. The analysis is reduced to a systematic numerical procedure, which is now being coded for solution on a digital computer. (Author)
