DIFFERENTIAL ANALYSER STUDY OF THE INTERFEROMETER HOMING SYSTEM,
Abstract
The University of Pennsylvania differential analyser has been used in the study of a set of equations intended to represent, with considerable simplification, the one-plane performance of a vehicle employing the interferometer homing system in the manner proposed by the University of Texas. The purpose of the investigation was to determine, if possible, optimum values for the two 'control parameters' of the system. These parameters are the percentage of missile rate of turn included in the control signal and the static ratio of control surface deflection to output of the homing device. The results obtained indicate that the system, as proposed, cannot be made to operate satisfactorily over a reasonably wide range of initial conditions, and that some modification is necessary. The second modification involves simply a change from proportional to 'bang-bang' control. (Author)
