POSSIBLE MODIFICATIONS OF THE SCANNING INTERFEROMETER,

Abstract

Several modifications of the basic scanning interferometer are described, together with alternative methods for employing phase comparator techniques and for introducing the requisite gyro-derived correction signal into the missile homing system. Numerous modifications and versions of the scanning interferometer have been proposed by the various members of the DRL Guidance Section since the initiation of the homing program. Several of these proposals have been collected and are set forth in the present report. The present suggestions are limited to those radar interferometer schemes which are based on antenna pattern scanning produced by the mechanical motion of one or more r-f phase shifters in a microwave antenna system. The present methods therefore describe sequential lobe comparison techniques and should not be confused with the simultaneous lobe comparison methods being developed under Project Meteor. (Author)
