A DESCRIPTION OF A TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMMING SYSTEM,

Abstract

A data handling system consisting of an information bank and several computer programs has been designed and implemented at the Logistics Research Project as part of a current effort in transportation research. This data handling system, the Transportation Programming System (TPS), provides the current data processing capabilities required by this research effort; and the system is open ended, allowing for both the modification of existing functions and the inclusion of new functions. This paper describes the TPS in some detail, beginning with a brief discussion of the goals and data processing requirements of the research effort. Section 2 presents a brief overview of the Transportation Programming System and provides an introduction to the succeeding sections which describe the various components and aspects of the TPS in considerable detail. The final section is a glossary which contains terms peculiar to the TPS and some terms that are in common use in the data processing field. (Author)
