HIGH GRAIN LOG-PERIODIC ANTENNAS.

Abstract

An experimental study was made of log-periodic antennas whose resonant elements are weakly coupled to the transmission line. Directive gains of more than 20 db over an isotropic radiator was obtained. Reasons for this higher gain are: (1) By the use of weak coupling and slowly tapered elements, the active region may be extended to any desired length; (2) Depending on the size of the structure, two or more active regions may be operated simultaneously. The measured performance of a magnetically coupled log-periodic antenna showed that the antenna characteristics are preserved with frequency. In addition, the design principles of this antenna are discussed and compared with experiment. (Author)
