STUDIES ON THE SCREENING OF ANTIBIOTICS FOR ANTHELMINTIC USE.

Abstract

After screening anthelmintic action of culture filtrates produced by 503 strains of streptomyces, one strain, I-502, was found to have potent killing action against adult Schistosoma japonicum in vitro. Evaluation of curative effect of the filtrate on experimental schistosomiasis in mice is in progress. The culture filtrate showed no influence on Nematospiroideses dubius in vitro. Crystalline substance derived from the culture filtrate was ineffective on motility of the parasite in vitro and on egg production of the parasite living in mice. (Author)
