ASYMPTOTIC SOLUTIONS OF ORDINARY LINEAR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS.

Abstract

The principal topics that were successfully investigated were: (1) Second-order differential equations having an irregular singularity of arbitary rank. (2) Systems of any number of first-order differential equations having an irregular singularity of arbitrary rank. (3) Phase-integral methods. (4) The method of stationary phase. (5) Laplace's method. (6) The method of steepest descents. Applications of the new theories were made to confluent hypergeometric functions, wave-penetration problems, and various integral representations of special functions. (Author)
