A HIGH DUTY CYCLE, HIGH PERFORMANCE LOG VIDEO AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

Most high performance log video amplifiers are restricted to a pulse train duty cycle of 5 per cent or less. The circuit herein described can readily accommodate duty cycles in excess of 50 per cent. This is accomplished by an improved DC restorer incorporating an operational amplifier. Additional attributes of the circuit are wide dynamic range (approximately equal to 90 dB), high sensitivity (approximately equal to 90 dB below 1 volt), and wide bandwidth (rise-time approximately equal to 150 ns). The circuit has been deliberately put in an operational amplifier format so that certain standard integrated circuit modules might be used. Diodes act as logging elements in a two stage feedback network. The transfer function may be adjusted to correct for limitations in the square law range of microwave detector crystals. Partial temperature compensation is provided. (Author)
