TRANSIENT WAVE PROPAGATION IN A CONDUCTING MEDIUM.

Abstract

Approximate solutions are obtained for the transient fields in an infinite or semi-infinite conducting medium excited by a step-modulated sinusoidal plane wave. A saddle point method is used to obtain a solution which is valid for relatively large times in the transient response, and a series expansion method is used to obtain a solution which is valid for small times in the transient response. A brief discussion is included on the signal velocity in a conducting medium. (Author)
