POLAROGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF COPPER IN PAPER.

Abstract

A polarographic method was developed for the determination of copper present as copper-8-quinolinolate and copper-8-derivatives in paper sandbags. The polarographic method uses 1:1 orthophosphoric acid as the supporting electrolyte and lead as the pilot ion. Paper sandbags containing 0.14% copper as copper-8-quinolinolate were used for this work. It is concluded that this polarographic method can be used for the determination of copper in paper. It is superior to the presently used electrolytic method with respect to time (5 hours versus 1 hour). The results obtained by polarography are in agreement with those obtained by the electrolytic method. (Author)
