ALBERT: A PACKAGE OF FOUR COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR CALCULATING GENERAL RELATIVISTIC CURVATURE TENSORS AND EQUATIONS OF MOTION

Abstract

This report is a user's manual for ALBERT, a package of four Caltech computer programs which calculate analytic expressions for general relativistic curvature tensors and equations of motion. The input data for ALBERT are analytic forms for the covariant and contravariant components of the metric tensor, g subscript ab and g superscript ab, and for the mixed components of the stress-energy tensor, W subscript a, superscript b. The output, variable at the discretion of the user, includes analytic expressions for the equations of motion, W subscript a, superscript b; subscript b = 0; for the Christoffel symbols, (Gamma subscript abc) and (Gamma subscript ab superscript c); for the Riemann tensor, R subscript abcd; for the Ricci tensor, R superscript a subscript b; for the Einstein tensor, G superscript a subscript b; and for the Ricci scalar, R. ALBERT should be usable, without modification, on any computer which has a FORMAC compiler. A complete listing of the programs in ALBERT is included in this report.
