STUDIES IN RADAR CROSS-SECTIONS-II. THE ZEROS OF THE ASSOCIATED LEGENDRE FUNCTIONS PMN (MU PRIME) OF NON-INTEGRAL DEGREE.

Abstract

This paper derives (by a new method) an equation due to Macdonald for determining the zeros of the associated Legendre functions of order m and non-integral degree n when the argument is close to -1. A closed form solution is obtained for the values of Q subscript n superscript m (mu) and Q subscript n superscript -m (mu) for mu close to 1. Certain observations are made concerning errors in a recently published article.
