MATERIALS ON THE BIOLOGY OF CERTAIN TICKS OF THE GENUS HAEMAPHYSALIS IN KIRGIZ SSR,
Abstract
In Kirgizia, H. sulcata ticks are widely distributed, and occur in semidesert landscapes with sagebrush-ephemeral vegetation. The chief hosts of adult ticks are sheep and goats, and of larvae and nymphs reptiles and birds. Seasonal dynamics curve of parasitism of adult ticks is October - May, of nymphs April - September, and of larvae end of May till middle of August. In laboratory conditions at 18C temperature, the entire developmental cycle of H. sulcata may be obtained in 85 to 224 days (average 143 days). Developmental cycle of H. sulcata in the bottomland lasts from 201 to 257 days (average 224 days), and in the warm foothills from 152 to 243 days (average 186 days). H. punctata is widely distributed in all oblasts of Kirgiz SSR, and parasitizes animals in grassland-steppe and meadow landscapes. Its distribution was observed in the nut-bearing forests and shrub thicket zones. (Author)
