Abstract

In connection with the problems of natural focality of hemorrhagic fever, a study was made of the ecology of ticks, Hyalomma plumbeum, the vector of this disease. 187 birds belonging to 44 species were examined for tick-infestation. Of the total number of inspected bird species, Hyalomma plumbeum larvae and nymphs were found on 5 bird species: rook, crow, cuckoo, common starling, and lapwing. The bird species most heavily infested proved to be the rook. The largest number of larvae and nymphs found on a rook was 734.
