DESIGN AND USE OF A BOTTOM ENVIRONMENTAL SENSING SYSTEM (BESS).

Abstract

The design of a Bottom Environmental Sensing System (BESS) is described. The BESS has been designed to measure the current speed and direction, water temperature, in-situ sediment strength, and minimum/maximum visibility periods of the near-bottom oceanic environment. The results of the first deployment of the system appear to be highly satisfactory. (Author)
