DISCUSSION OF ROTARY JOINT CHARACTERISTICS FOR FREQUENCIES OUT OF THE DESIGN BAND.

Abstract

The report describes the basic principles of operation of rectangular/coaxial rotary joints and their out-of-band characteristics. The possible use of a rotary joint to provide a constant insertion loss with rotation to out-of-band frequencies is discussed. Measurements and data describing the resonant effects of a typical L-band rotary joint to specific out-of-band frequencies is presented. Two possible designs for high-power filters utilizing some of the characteristics of the rotary joint investigated are described. (Author)
