FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS.

Abstract

The research work of M. H. Martin and students centered around the boundary problem delta u = u subscript xx + u subscript yy = O in S, u subscript n = h(s)f(u,v), for an analytic function f(z) = u + iv. Such a problem arises in the mathematical theory of periodic, irrotational waves of finite amplitude in an incompressible fluid of infinite depth in which case delta u = O in r < 1 and u subscript n = p(e to the -3v power)sin u on r = 1. Other investigations considered under this contract are also discussed.
