A NEW CABLE WRAP WITH IMPROVED THERMAL BARRIER PROPERTIES,

Abstract

The article describes a new cable core wrap, combining the dielectric strength of modified polypropylene with the thermal resistance of nonwoven polyester mat. It has been wrapped successfully both spirally and longitudinally by one large utility and several independent cable manufacturers. It has also been submitted to the REA for its approval. In the development of this laminate, an empirical test was devised which hopefully can be of use to cable makers in assessing the effectiveness of any cable wrap construction as a thermal insulator.
