FREE-FLIGHT RANGE MEASUREMENTS OF SPHERE DRAG AT LOW REYNOLDS NUMBERS AND LOW MACH NUMBERS

Abstract

The drag coefficients of spheres were obtained from free-flight range tests of metal spheres at Reynolds numbers from 185 to 11,600 and at Mach numbers from 0.17 to 0.99. An analysis of the data indicates that the total errors in the measured drag coefficients are within +2 or -2 percent.
