RESOLUTION CRITERIA FOR OPTICAL AND PHOTOGRAPHIC SYSTEMS.

Abstract

In writing specifications and establishing design goals for optical or photographic training devices, it is necessary that optical resolution criteria be established. Optimum resolution is sometimes not feasible due to system complexity or economic limitations, but a valuable training device may still be produced with degraded resolution. The guidelines for determining acceptable degradation of resolution are presented along with the analysis of a particular system, a periscope view simulator. No general degradation criteria can be established; each system must be analyzed following a procedure similar to the one outlined in this report. (Author)
