THE HARNESS SYSTEMS APPROACH TO FLAT WIRING,

Abstract

Although flat conductor cable has been available for several years, has many obvious functional advantages, and has been considered to have a huge market potential, penetration into electronics systems to date has not been significant. To a large extent, this is attributable to the lack of adequate termination means. A 'harness system' approach to the solution of this problem is described, wherein the cable and its termination are designed to be predeterminably compatible with each other. Manufacture of both the cable and its termination is discussed, as are the features and functional versatility of the system. Also described is a field connector for flat conductor cable, which is interchangeable with the 'harness system' termination, for application where a factory-manufactured harness is not practicable to round out the 'total system' approach.
