A METHOD OF CALCULATING SOIL TEMPERATURES UNDER A COVER OF SNOW,
Abstract
A solution of the equation of heat conductivity in complex media is of considerable value in working out many technical and geophysical problems. A special situation among numerous applications in which this solution is employed concerns the question of the prognosis of the thermal conditions of the lower layer of the atmosphere and the top layers of the soil. Of this group of problems, it is worth while to single out the quite important task of predicting the course of soil temperatures under a snow cover. Because of the great practical importance of the problem of the study of the thermal regime of the ground under snow cover, the present work is devoted to an investigation of the equation of heat conductivity in a complex snow-ground medium, with applications to the problem of calculating the temperature of the ground under the snow cover with heterogeneous thermal characteristics.
