AN APPROXIMATE EVALUATION OF FORMULAS ON THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF SNOW,

Abstract

A number of formulas exist which express the relationship between the thermal conductivity of snow and its density. However, calculations according to these formulas give extremely varied results and there is no criterion which would make it possible to evaluate the dependability of any of these formulas. The report shows graphically the shortcomings of some of these formulas although it does not permit one to select the best formula.
