MAGNETOSTRICTIVE SONAR TRANSDUCERS.

Abstract

Preliminary study indicates that magnetostrictive drivers employing symmetrical permanent-magnet polarization and solenoidal ac excitation should be the equal of piezoelectric ceramic drivers in performance and their superior in mechanical strength. Magnetostrictive drivers should be assembled and evaluated for the principal active sonars amenable to design change. (Author)
