JOSS LANGUAGE.

Abstract

This is a JOSS user's portfolio containing three brief reference summaries of the actions that can be requested of JOSS and of the language for requesting these actions. The summaries are presented in varying formats to suit the user's convenience: a pocket-size book for personal use (Pocket Precis, 17 pp.), a larger and more complete piece for desk-top or console use (Apercu and Precis, 23 pp.), and a poster-size summary for the bulletin board (Poster Precis, 1 p.). The precis demonstrate that the language provided for JOSS is terse, unambiguous, and readable, stressing familiar English terminology and punctuation and use. The speed and ease of interaction between JOSS and the user, the simplicity of the language, the use of familiar decimal arithmetic, and JOSS's precise error and status reporting combine to allow most problems to be solved by an understanding of the problem at hand and a list of JOSS commands and functions.
