INTEGRATED MAINTAINABILITY CRITERIA DEVELOPMENT TECHNIQUE.

Abstract

The report covers a study on design criteria for in-space maintenance. A general procedure is set up to develop the maintainability design criteria. It is recognized that just as development of a guidance system for a new spacecraft requires writing of design criteria oriented to the specific mission and system requirements, so does development of a support system require design criteria oriented toward the specific requirements. A bookkeeping matrix system is set up to provide an orderly method of assessing requirements, eliminating commonalities, and presenting information in a manner conducive to logical tradeoffs. The systematic sequence of logical questions is discussed and general solutions are evaluated. This report evaluates the problems of data which is not readily available today, and what steps will have to be taken to eventually solve the data problem. This technique will provide for integration of support decisions and system design decisions to improve system effectiveness.
