CHROMATOGRAPHY AND SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPLEXES.

Abstract

A summary is given of work aimed at the synthesis and study of new metal coordination complexes and ligands based on 8-hydroxy quinoline. A comprehensive equation was developed and verified which describes the efficiency of extraction of cations, as organometallic molecular chelates, into organic solvents in terms of various known equilibria and in terms of changes of hydrogen ion concentration. 2-Ethyl- and 2-isopropyl-8-quinolinols were synthesized and examined in detail with respect to the solvent extraction of their chelates. The chromatographic studies were largely concerned with the factors which influence the adsorption of 8-quinolinol and 2-methyl-8-quinolinol chelates.
