SEQUENTIAL-DECAY ASPECTS OF THE REACTION 16O(ALPHA, 2 ALPHA)12C-GS,

Abstract

A plane-wave Born approximation is used to show that the reaction 16O(alpha, 2 alpha)12C-GS at an incident energy of 25 MeV proceeds predominantly as inelastic alpha-scattering followed by alpha-decay of the excited 16O recoil nucleus. An analysis of the data using this theory confirms the spin and parity assignments of 4(+) for the 11.09 and 13.88 MeV levels. (Author)
