ON NONLINEAR EQUATIONS OF ISOTROPIC ELASTIC SPHERICAL SHELLS,

Abstract

A complete and consistent system of dynamic equations including the effect of thickness-shear deformation is derived for isotropic elastic spherical shells. This is accomplished by adopting a generalized variational equation of motion based on simplified nonlinear elasticity theory involving finite deflections and carrying out the integration in the thickness direction. The displacement equations of motion and boundary conditions are then deduced for the transverse axisymmetric vibrations of spherical caps which are supported such that the transverse displacement vanishes at the edge.
