POLICY PLANNING FOR TECHNICAL INFORMATION IN INDUSTRY

Abstract

The paper is divided into three parts (1) management of research and development in industry; (2) information transfer in industrial research and development, and (3) responsibilities of the documentalist in industry. (1) stresses that research and development can only flourish in a properly oriented national environment; (2) points out the heavy reliance of engineers on informal, oral internal sources of information, but says that documentalists aren't all that different (3) discusses the allocation of information sources and services to meet users' real or imagined needs.
