THERMAL DIFFUSION AND OTHER TRANSPORT PHENOMENA IN GASES.

Abstract

A summary is given of research involving both experimental and theoretical work. The experimental work had two aspects: (1) measurement of thermal diffusion and diffusion in gases as a technique for the study of forces between unlike molecules; (2) study of a new diffusion phenomenon, in which convection instabilities develop spontaneously in diffusing multicomponent mixtures. The theoretical work, which was closely related to the experimental, aimed at a better understanding of transport and other molecular collision phenomena in gases.
