ULTRAVIOLET AND INFRARED ABSORPTION IN OH(-)-DOPED NAF.

Abstract

The infrared absorption of OH(-)-doped NaF displays two prominent features: (1) a broad line at 3728/cm attributed to a substitutional OH(-) ion, and (2) a sharp line spectrum between 3540 and 3660/cm by OH(-)-impurity complexes. The assignment of the former is confirmed by the observation of the isotope shift in crystals containing OH(-) enriched in O18. Upon x-irradiation at room temperature the OH(-) ions are decomposed and substitutional H(-) and O2(-) ions are formed. The H(-) and O2(-) ions have ultraviolet absorption bands at 7.9 ev and 8.7 ev respectively. (Author)
